President's Report

Happy September, ARMA CT!

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer!  Last year, ARMA CT underwent some changes in an attempt to engage more members in our events.  We held an association wide conference call, asking for input and suggestions.  Based on those suggestions, we changed our meeting format to a few social happy hours, an in person lunch and learn event, and an all day event held last May at Mohegan Sun.  Our in person events had a great turn out, but we didn’t truly see a positive response to our webinars.

Planning these events (even the webinars) takes a lot of time and effort.  Again, I am pleading with you all to step up and get involved!  Right now, the board consists of Melissa Dederer and myself - which creates a nearly impossible task to foster an active association and be engaged.  Additionally, my term as President is in it's final year... We need your help - a successful, engaged, professional association is a phenomenal resource for all of us - whether it is to network, to bounce ideas off of a peer, or simply to vent.  Your involvement does not need to take a significant amount of time - step forward and volunteer to organize a social event, host a webinar, write an article, kick off a round table discussion, help market the association…. Every little bit counts!

For the upcoming year, in light of the attendance at last year’s events, I believe that it is best to continue the combination of webinars and in-person events.  To lighten the load on the board, we are partnering with others to offer these events to you.  Up first is a series of webinars that Contoural will be offering at no-cost to the association members.  Details will be forth coming, along with registration links, but the webinars currently scheduled are as follows:

  • 10/15 - Retention Schedules to Drive a Modern Information Governance Strategy
  • 11/19 - Office 365 Building Blocks and Strategies
  • 12/10 - Creating a California Consumer Privacy Act Action Plan
  • 1/21 - Building Your Business Case for Information Governance
  • 2/18 - Creating and Maintaining an Updated Privacy Policy
  • 3/10 - Controlling Sensitive information in Office 365

The next big event to happen is ARMA InfoCon 2019, October 21-23 in Nashville, TN.  This is ARMA International’s annual conference, and is always a worthwhile event!  Registration and details are available at http://www.arma.org.

ARMA CT is partnering with ARMA Boston and AIIM New England to host a 2 day conference on November 13-14 at Mohegan Sun.  The first day of the conference will be half day prep classes for the IGP and the CIP, and the second day will be an education event with speakers, a roundtable discussion, and an interactive activity designed to build your skills.  Stay tuned for more details on this event, but mark your calendars!  You can attend both days, one day, a day and a half - the time involved is up to you!

If anyone is interested in helping out with any of our events, or taking the lead in planning another event, please reach out to us!

I hope to see you all soon!
